THE UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE OF PENNSYLVANIA
For Immediate Release: Announcement of Major Division Schedule, Expansion for 56th Season. Women's Schedule to follow upon Completion
EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA – The United Soccer League of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania’s only USASA Elite Amateur League, has approved a three-team expansion of the Major Division. This expansion continues the storied development of the league and solidifies it as the top amateur soccer league in the state.
The league has welcomed for the 2014-2015 season, Lancaster City Football Club, South Jersey Elite Barons and the Ocean City Nor’easters. The entry of these teams expands the Major Division to ten teams.
"This expansion helps bring a quality product to a few established clubs that needed a place for their senior level players to compete and offers an emerging club like Lancaster a place to showcase that area's talent, We are all excited to have them join the USL," said United Soccer League President Blair Thomson.
The addition of these three new clubs as members of the United Soccer League re-extends the reach of the league to areas that are part of its history. Up and coming clubs like Lancaster, “The Brick City Boys,” recognize the history and level of competition and their entry recalls notable founding clubs like the Reading Americans.
New Jersey teams over the years have found places in the United Soccer League. Trenton G.A.K. and Germania Camden come to mind. The two new teams recently accepted into the league follow this tradition. The South Jersey Elite Barons began as a youth academy club and has recently started an adult men’s team. The Ocean City Nor’easters soccer franchise of the Premier Development League has also started an amateur team and both of these clubs seek to play in the high level of soccer competition offered by the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania.
